A dog bowl has been developed by a NSW veterinarian and it has raised awareness of the heart attack rate associated with elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Key points:Elevated levels of cortisol in the body can cause stress and increase the risk of heart attacksElevation of heart rate is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and cancerIt’s also linked to elevated blood pressure and increased cholesterol levels in the bloodThe dog bowl is made of ceramic material and uses a metal plate to hold the bowl in placeThe bowl is shaped like a heart and the metal plate is covered in ceramic material.

The ceramic plate is attached to a steel plate with an elevated heart rate sensor.

The dog’s heart rate can be monitored while it is sitting in the bowl and can be adjusted to monitor blood pressure.

The team from the Royal Veterinary College and University of NSW tested the bowl on a dog with elevated cortisol levels and found the bowl reduced the heart rate by about 12 per cent.

They believe the dog bowl could be a useful tool for those suffering from heart disease and diabetes, as well as those at higher risk for heart attacks, diabetes and cancer.

The bowl was developed by the veterinary team from a clinical trial of a dog bowl in Melbourne.

Dr James Hensley, a cardiac surgeon and research professor at the University of New South Wales, said the device was being developed to help the general public who have elevated levels and may not be aware of their risk.

“There is a general awareness of this but not necessarily what we can do about it,” Dr Hensle said.

“What we can say is it may help people with high heart rates, but what we really want is for people to understand that it might be helpful for their own health and wellbeing.”

Dr Henslie said it was difficult to predict whether the device would work, but it could be used in the clinic or at home.

“We don’t know how long the device will last and how long we’ll have to wait before it can be used by the general population,” he said.

Dr Hinsley said the design of the bowl was based on the research of Dr H.M. Banting and Dr J.F. Jones from the University at Buffalo in the US.

“It’s a new design and is very similar to a bowl that people use in the United States,” Dr FJones said.

He said the bowl used in that study could be made by anyone, but the team had been working closely with a small number of manufacturers.

“This is one of the first ones we’ve done that’s really easy to make,” he told ABC Radio Melbourne.

“The bowl has a metal surface, so the whole idea is to make it easy to transport.”

You can get it from the internet, you can buy it from a pet store.

“Dr Jones said the technology could be developed for other uses, including helping people with diabetes and heart disease.”

Our hope is that people with elevated heart rates will be able to use the device in a lab setting or in a clinical setting,” he explained.”

For people with heart disease or diabetes it could give them a better understanding of their health status.

“Dr FJones, who was not involved in the research, said it would be great to find out how the device works.”

That is a really exciting prospect,” he added.”

I think it’s going to open up new possibilities in heart rate monitoring and I’m sure we’ll see many applications for this.
