The Flagstaff City Council voted Monday to raise Flagstaff’s elevation to seven-story heights.
The elevation is the highest point in the city.
“This is the perfect height for a hotel,” Council President Jeff Siegel said.
“This is a great location to create the next step for Flagstaff.”
Flagstaff’s City Council agreed in April to build a hotel on the site of the former Phoenix Municipal Airport.
That hotel, which will be built at the southwest corner of the airport property, will be the first of its kind in the nation.
The new Flagstaff hotel is slated to open in 2019, but the hotel will not be a part of the existing Phoenix Municipal airport site.
“We need to raise our hotel’s elevation,” Siegel told The Arizona Republic.
“It’s the first hotel that’s going to be on this property.”
